Assistant Principal

Valencia T. Barnes was born in Tallahassee, FL and attended Leon County Schools.  Mrs. Barnes holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in English with a minor in education.  Mrs. Barnes received a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Florida A&M University. Mrs. Barnes began her teaching career at Tallahassee Community College as an adjunct professor teaching English.  She is committed to working with struggling students, so she later secured a position at an all girls alternative school in Tallahassee, FL where she taught English, reading and the school’s ESE site coordinator.  After a few years at the alternative school, Mrs. Barnes received a position with the Wakulla County School System where she taught English, Reading and sponsored an all girls community service club. After several years in the Wakulla County School System, Mrs. Barnes received a position with the Leon County School System. Mrs. Barnes has served as the English Department Chairperson, School Leadership Team member and named the 2009 Minority Educator of the year for Belle Vue Middle School. During her tenure at Belle Vue Middle school earned AYP in writing under her leadership. Mrs. Barnes later secured a position with the Madison County School District as an Assistant Principal. While serving as Assistant Principal at Madison County Central School, Madison County Central School’s score increased 50 points during the 2011-2012 school year. Mrs. Barnes is committed to the success of our children, and believes we must educate the "whole child" in order to be successful.
