Presley`s 2017 English Summer Reading List

Dear Students,

I am so excited about the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. Together, we will explore challenging and interesting literary material through critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation. We will examine the connections between literature and "real world" experiences through writing and indepth conversation. Literary analysis and novel discussion are just two components of the English curriculum designed to help students sharpen essential skills through relevant and rigorous engagement. This year's English summer reading assignment supports the state's reading initiative that prioritizes reading as a core value.

Over the summer, I expect you to read the two assigned books by O'Brien and Setterfield. However, be especially prepared to discuss "The Things They Carried." Indepth discussion questions are scheduled to begin August 14, 2017. The book by Foster will be used as a home and in-class resource.

At the start of school break, parents and guardians will be notified about this important summer assignment. A great starting point is your local public library. Also, area bookstores carry the books as new or used. So, make sure you start your reading adventure early!
